Emma Seligman is a Canadian film director and screenwriter. As of this writing, their relationship status is unknwon.
Seligman is gay and Jewish and uses she/they pronouns. They are best known for their work on the independent film “Shiva Baby.” The film was their senior thesis.
“Shiva Baby” marked Emma Seligman’s directorial debut and received praise for its sharp writing, relatable characters, and fresh perspective.
The film also won Film Independent’s Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award for small-budget productions in 2022.
Emma Seligman and Rachel Sennott reunited for their second feature picture, Bottoms, a teen sex comedy in which two high school lesbians form a fight club to win the attention of their cheerleader crushes.
While still a student at Tisch, Seligman came up with the idea for the movie and started working on it with Sennott. The film headlined the SXSW film festival on March 11, 2023.
NPR’s Aisha Harris praised the film, saying, “Sennott and Seligman strike both a sweet and an abrasive tone that is tricky to pull off, but they do so quite handily.”
